Mid Autumn Festival & Kimchi

Today is the 8th month 15th day of the Lunar Calendar, which happens to be ‘Chung Chow Chit’ in Cantonese; which means Mid Autumn Festival. In Malaysia, it is also known as Moon Cake Festival or Lantern Festival for the obvious reasons i.e. we celebrate by eating moon cakes and lighting up the house with lanterns :-)

Gosh! Feeling a little emo now… wish my angels are here… we would be playing lanterns… can imagine them giggling… laughing…

Anyway, this morning, we witnessed a minor accident while on the way to work. From far, we noticed an old man standing outside the bus stop and a taxi parked next to the bus stop and him. All of a sudden the taxi started reversing towards the old man! When we were nearer, we wanted to shout or horn at him but alas… it was too late. The taxi had reversed more and knocked the old man down! Hubby wanted to stop and see how was he. Thank goodness it was a mild knock and the old man was able to get up immediately! Taxi driver immediately got down and checked out the old man. What a horror! If that taxi driver had reversed faster, it would have been worst! I really wonder what was that taxi driver thinking? Never used the rear view mirror but wait… his back glass was full of stickers! He couldn’t see anything anyway!!! Dumb nuts!!! What a morning!

Well, Hubby decided to try Korean for dinner today, sort of celebrating Mid Autumn since it’s a dull evening. Today happens to be Chuseok Festival for the Koreans, what a coincidence; thanks to Michelle or I wouldn’t have known about it ;-)

Chuseok (Korean: 추석), originally known as Hangawi (한가위) (from archaic Korean for "great middle"), is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Like many other harvest festivals, it is held around the Autumn Equinox. As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional food such as songpyeon.

Kimchi Korean Restaurant is usually crowded over the weekends. It is quite empty today since it’s the middle of the week. I like the ambience here, very clean cut and crisp.

Looking at the menu, we actually didn’t know what to order since we don’t take beef. Finally we chose Hae Mool Jun Gol, seafood in non-spicy soup, for 2. We added 2 bowls of rice and 2 glasses of warm water.

Our main meal, it actually looked like ‘Bah Kut Teh’ but with seafood instead of pork ;-)

It is a healthy concoction with loads of vegetables, mushrooms and glass noodles in clear soup BUT high in cholesterol because of the seafood :p There were crabs, prawns, clams, squids and crabsticks. A very tasty soup with fresh ingredients, hence made the overall meal very yummylicious. Even our steamed rice tasted good and fresh. At the end of the meal, we were damn full! A very fulfilling dinner indeed!

Our total bill was RM72.60 including 10% service charge. Overall, it’s quite pricey but the freshness and selection of seafood ingredients made up for it.
