MPOV: The Voice Season 2

NUP_146964_1932.JPG

I still remember when I first saw the advertisement for this singing reality competition last year on Astro. Christina Aguilera caught my attention as I didn’t know the remaining judges then. I immediately noted the date and time of the repeats so that I could watch it during the weekends. Honestly, no regrets!

From the start of the Blind Auditions to the Battle Rounds and then the Live Shows, it was totally humorous, entertaining and worthwhile to watch. Unlike other singing competitions, The Voice contestants will be judged solely on their voice and not their looks which is why I love, love, love the Blind Auditions! It’s a totally superb and cool concept, with the judge’s back facing the contestants. Well, they will not be able to see the contestants performing, instead listening to the voice until the right one caught their attention. Once they pressed their buttons, their chairs will turn and they can watch the remaining performance. Cool right? If more than 1 judge pressed the button, this is the exciting part, we would see the judges trying to upsell their mentoring skills which were totally hilarious!

The judges are Adam Levine  (no intro required *drooling*), Blake Shelton (country singer), Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. Blimey, the eyes seemed fixated on Adam alone! LOL! Oh and Christina’s revealing clothes where her boobs were always wanting to pop out! It’s very distracting!

Anyway, it has reached the Battle Rounds now which is so exciting! You can catch it on AXN channel 701 or HD channel 721, Wednesdays 10pm or repeats on Sundays 8pm. A singing reality competition series not to be missed! Trust me!

2 thumbs up!

Gala Premier of Sunway Lagoon's Magical Musicals

Thanks to allMalaysia Blogger's Project (AMBP), I received a pair of invites to attend the Gala Premier of Sunway Lagoon's Magical Musicals on 10th June 2011! Yippee yay!

I was supposed to bring Princess as she would love the glitzy glamour musical but Hubby couldn’t go off early to fetch her hence I had to look for other alternative. I ended up asking Ann since her birthday had just passed… sort off a belated birthday present for her lah ^.^

We were at the main entrance by 7pm, joining the queue, waiting to be allowed into the Amphitheatre. It was a very humid evening, I was sweating profusely! The queue quickly built up and by 7.30pm, they finally let us in… phew!

It was a very long journey to the Amphitheatre. I didn’t know it was that far! Mid way through, we got on the buggy/ train to be ferried to the theatre. Thank goodness! I was already wet with sweat! Ann pulak looked cool… not a single drop! See photo below, dry as a whistle =.=

As it was a gala premier, upon reaching the entrance of the Amphitheatre, we still had to queue as they were slowly letting us in on the red carpet. Yes! The red carpet! DJ’s from Mix.fm (JD and Dilly) and Litefm (Ryan and Sarah) were there to greet us, totally made us felt like celebrities albeit in the heat and sweat *grinning* Shucks, I was all sweaty by then! I hope I looked good in the photo *silly grin*

Once inside, to my utmost horror, it was an open-air theatre! It’s a first for me to the Amphitheatre so it caught me off guard especially since it was a damn hot night! Thankfully, the many huge fans around were working efficiently, I was able to cool down subsequently. The musical finally started around 8.45pm after the opening speeches by Aaron Soo (CEO of Sunway Lagoon & Executive Producer of Magical Musicals) and Chris Colby (Director & Producer) & David Kort (Choreographer).

Magical Musicals tells an endearing story of young small-town performers seeking recognition for their immeasurable talents. It ties together 30 musical numbers from widely loved musicals of all time such as Mamma Mia!, Dreamgirls, Saturday Night Fever, Moulin Rouge!, Grease, Footloose, We Will Rock You, West Side Story, Hairspray and even the televised musical phenomenon, Glee!

Overall, it was a very magical performance and musically entertaining! I was pretty mesmerized by it that I only managed to snap some photos. Oh yes… we were allowed to bring our cameras in during this gala premiere *grinning* The vocals were breath-takingly fantastic! However I felt that they would definitely sound better in a closed stage. The dancers were good and entertaining for an overall local ensemble. I especially enjoyed the 2nd half of the musical as I knew most of the songs here! I guess most of us did as I noticed most of the guests started moving and jiggling with the musicals by then ^.^

The talented West End performers cast as lead characters are Stevie Tate Bauer, Neil Couperthwaite, Amanda Salmon, Stephen Weller, Gareth Heesom and LJ Neilson. The impressive theatrics is supported by a company of over 30 international dancers, daring fire-eaters and lively Bhangra drummers.

I will not spoil your fun by listing the musicals sung, you should be there to experience the glitzy glamour fun and a dazzling stage set with spectacular pyrotechnics and massive LED screens! We had a wonderful girl’s night out despite the hunger pangs (We haven’t taken our dinner yet, mind you, due to the rush and timing). We enjoyed the red carpet treatment for a cool gala premier but do wished there was air-condition ^.^ Only set back, we had to endure the long and far walk back to the car park in Sunway Pyramid… no buggy/ train rides here. I do wish they would improvise the ‘long journey’ from/ to the main entrance to/ from the theatre *wishful thinking*

7 thumbs up out of 10

Look who I met in Tropicana City Mall?

Elmo and Cookie Monster!!! Ain’t they cute??? They were roaming around the mall this morning to promote Sesame Street Live “When Elmo Grows Up” coming to Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil from 3/9/10 to 5/9/10 ^.^

On another note, I hate my thighs! Just noticed it bulging from the sides… so yucky! =.=

Disney's High School Musical: Summer Celebration!

Last Friday, I was down with sore throat, fever and blocked nose. I was annoyed when I left the clinic as the doctor had suggested that I should take the Tammy flu pills, just in case, since I have influenza like symptoms. I doubt that I have H1N1 hence I declined it, furthermore, it's not cheap. Local produced pills cost RM80 for 10 pills and the ones from US costs RM120!!! Oops! Off topic ;-)

Anyway, on the way home, I was listening to hitz.fm in the car and they were offering 2 free tickets to watch High School Musical! I immediately dialed their number and after a few tries, I actually got through! My heart was beating damn fast when Ean answered the call, all the while trying to recall what I was supposed to do ;-) I didn't pay attention until when they said "Call now" *grinning* Anyway, I was supposed to plead to JJ and Ean for the tickets 'musically'... yes, I have to sing!!! Me in my 'horsey' voice, singing tuneless pleading them to give me the tickets... geez!!! My hubby was trying to hold back his laughter! Well, I got it! 2 tickets to watch Disney's High School Musical: Summer Celebration on Sunday, 8pm show! Only 1 problem though... who should I bring? I tried asking for 4 but unfortunately, they can't give me extras... sigh! In the end, hubby and I decided that I should bring my son as he likes High School Musical whereas my girl prefers Camp Rock.

It was held at KL Convention Centre so we decided to take the LRT there since it was PC Fair's last day, to avoid the traffic jam. It was a smooth ride for a Sunday. However a weird incident happened in the train though. A foreigner had actually vomited once he boarded the train. Everyone quickly moved aside as his vomit was sprinkling all over. I had baby wipes with me so I offered that to him. Kesian lah! Once we reached KLCC, the crowd... OMG! It was so crowded, jam packed with people! We quickly make our way to the convention centre. We reached the ticket counter, just in time, at 7pm to collect the tickets. We were one of the early birds actually. As there was nothing much to do, we walked around the convention centre, avoiding PC Fair though, as it will definitely be crowded. Some of the pics taken while idling away...

The lift to Plenary Hall:

Tickets for the show!

Early birds waiting for the doors to open:

The official bunting:

In collaboration with The Star, they actually have a counter selling magazines bundled with 2 old issues. I got Kuntum for my son, RM2 for 1 latest issue and 2 old issues!

The famous PC Fair bunting:

The crowd started to pick up around 7.30pm:

Finally the doors opened around 7.45pm! We got the upstairs tickets thus the view was a little far, can't complaint much since it's free:

The view below:

Before the show started, the convention centre actually had someone briefing us about the safety drill. It's good, in case anything bad happened, but no one actually paid attention. Typical! Anyway, the show was splendid and entertaining, it's a compilation of songs from High School Musical 1, 2 and 3, instead of listening from a CD, this is a live musical of it. Some of the songs they sang: We're all in this together, Fabulous, Can I have this dance, Bop to the top, Getcha head in the game and Stick to the status quo. The casts had really powerful vocals and superb dance routines! 'Kelsi' and 'Taylor' were the narrators for the whole show and they were good.

The casts:
Joel Santiago as Troy Bolton
Brooke Gibson as Gabriella Montez
Ashton Frederick as Kelsi Nielsen
Stephanie Smith as Taylor McKessie
Daniel Smith as Chad Danforth
Lindsey Medlen as the famous Sharpay
Kevin Kempscynski as Ryan Evans

They had 1 lucky viewer to sing 'acapella', can't remember the song title though, and this boy was really good. I missed taking the pic as he was mesmerizing, so brave, for a 6 year old boy. They also selected 1 lucky viewer to go on stage to dance with 'Troy'! Lucky her!

I forgot to note down which song they sang for which pic ;-) I do have poor memory and I was really enjoying the show! I was impressed there were so many die hard fans, who actually remembered the songs, the lyrics, everything about High School Musical! I felt a little off since I can't remember much, except for the part when Troy and Gabriella first met singing in a karaoke joint. I know... shame on me! Only 1 disappointment for me though, I didn't know there were booklets available, not sure for sale or giveaway, we saw some people having it. We didn't get a copy as no one mentioned it to us, even when we collected out tickets. Anyway, my son was really awed and enjoyed the whole show! Thanks to hitz.fm for the tickets!!!
