An interesting story about life re-imagined as an egg. My interpretation lah! Anyway, it is more on a spiritual take about reincarnations and the life cycle itself, similarly to Hinduism and Buddhism. I do wished I could write a short story as thought provoking as The Egg. Andy must have been practising and polishing his skill on his website (link above) before actually writing his first novel, The Martian (still have not read the book though I've watched the movie). Now this has actually peaked my interest to read the book :-)
The below sums it up:
“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”
“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”
“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”
“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”
And I sent you on your way.
