Gina Yap has been releasing her novel, Culik 1.0, chapter by chapter twice a week on Wattpad. I was curious as I seldom read Malay novels, moreover
from a Chinese author. Upon reading it, I was captivated by the plot and then diligently followed the release LOL!
It follows the story of Zak, a 10 years old boy kidnapped by
their local meat supplier, Luqman. His father, MinHo, is a policeman who tried
his level best to locate his missing son. As the story progresses, it became a
little gory and my imagination got the better of me! Truth be told, I did not
see that coming! Also the ending was truly unexpected! Goodness, Gina is really good at antagonizing and enticing her readers!
Gina writes very well in Malay for a Chinese, very affluent
and I was so in awe reading it. Her prose is simple, easy to understand yet
meticulously detailed with events that I felt enthralled after reading it.
Truly a captivating read filled with suspense.
