It's the story of a shepherd named Santiago searching for his Personal Legend. Through his journey from Spain to Egypt, he met a gypsy, an old king, an Englishman, an alchemist and finally his future wife. His Personal Legend is to seek a buried treasure at the Pyramids.
There were many obstacles and good omens throughout his journey, leading him closer to his treasure. With the guidance of the people he met, listening to his good heart and the Language of the World, he was able to finish pursuing his Personal Legend.
This is an interesting book. Paulo Coelho is an intelligent story teller. He can literally tell a story out of a motivational topic. In summary, this is like The Law of Attraction / The Secret in a novel / fiction format LOL!
At the start, the pace was slow and I was beginning to think this book was not my cup of tea. However, once Santiago met the Englishman, it has started to quicken it's pace with more exciting adventures. Though philosophical, it was entertaining and motivating at the same time.
It is truly inspiring, leading our thoughts and mind to the correct path with much clarity. It's like reading some Buddhist meditating books. Thought provoking with the many inspiring quotes to instill the positive in us... I've shared some which I liked below...
"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
"Everything in life is an omen" said the Englishman, now closing the journal he was reading. "There is a universal language, understood by everybody, but already forgotten. I am in search of that universal language, among other things. That's why I'm here. I have to find a man who knows that universal language. An alchemist."
"And you ought to read more about the world" answered the Englishman. "Books are like caravans in that respect."
"When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream" said the alchemist, echoing the words of the old king.
The men were terrified at his sorcery. But there were two people who were smiling: the alchemist, because he had found his perfect disciple, and the chief, because that disciple had understood the glory of God.
All in all, it teaches us to be grateful and thankful, to feel blessed with prayers in mind, to listen to our hearts and not forgetting to dream as dreams do come true!
