MPOV: Friends, Lovers, Chocolate (Isabel Dalhousie, #2)

My rating: 2/5
Goodreads rating: 3.62
Released: September 20, 2005
Author: Alexander McCall Smith
Genre: mystery, fiction

"In this delightful second installment in Alexander McCall Smith's bestselling detective series, the irrepressibly curious Isabel Dalhousie gets caught up in a highly unusual affair of the heart. When Isabel is asked to cover for vacationing Cat at her delicatessen, Isabel meets a man with a most interesting problem. He recently had a heart transplant and is suddenly haunted by memories of events that never happened to him.The situation piques her insatiable curiosity: Could the memories be connected with the donor's demise? Naturally, Isabel's friend Jamie thinks it is none of Isabel's business. Meanwhile, Grace, Isabel's housekeeper, has become infatuated with a man at her spiritualist meeting, and Cat brings home an Italian lothario. That makes for some particularly tricky problems ? both practical and philosophical ? for Isabel to unravel in this enormously engaging and highly unusual mystery.

The above taken from Goodreads.

This was my first Alexander McCall Smith's read and it happened to be book 2 of a mystery series. However, it was as good as a standalone as I didn't realized it until I saw it on Goodreads. Book 2 or not, this will be my last book as this is definitely not my cup of tea. It's prose was clear, straightforward and easy to grasp but it's just too direct for me... as though the bar chart was drawn in a straight line... no shocking nor surprising elements. It totally reminded me of Diva Channel's drama series... very family oriented. It was like Murder She Wrote but in a mild manner for young readers. Just too mild for me LOL!

A couple of new words for me:
Egalitarians : a person who advocates or supports egalitarian principles
Eleemosynary : relating to or dependent on charity
