University College?

I always wonder ‘Why University College?’

I mean… an university is an university… a college is a college.

Why do you need to combine it? To make the institution sounded more professional? More upper class? Hmmm…

Later, I found out that these institutions were not able to obtain university status, hence to differentiate them from the other normal institutions, they have coined the name as such. Weird. I also didn’t bother Googling to find out the depth of this. Yes, with such status, they do provide a much better facility, a higher standard of education and more recognizable degrees. The only set back… these institutions would be able to charge more. Go figure!
